Based in an imaginary small town called “Lapataganj” (means a lost place), the story is inspired from the writings of Sharad Joshi-who was an eminent Hindi satirist. His wide range of work has highlighted the bitter truth of our society with a satirical punch. These stories while making us laugh; also make us empathize with the situations we face in our daily lives.
“Lapataganj” is a town in some part of India which has been long forgotten by the system. The town struggles daily for basic facilities yet the people residing there are the happiest of the lot. The show captures the spirit of a common man to lead a happy life against all odds.

Episode 1 · Water Crisis
Mukundi and other villagers are tensed as there is again no water supply. The man who has come to see Sureeli for marriage, rejects her because she is dumb.
Episode 2 · Pappu Sneaks Into Sureeli's Room
Mukundi starts his day with a fight with Indumati which spoils his mood. Pappu sneaks into Sureeli's room and starts flirting with her.
Episode 3 · The Election Day
Everyone in Lapataganj is busy discussing the upcoming elections in the village. There arises a debate over whether or not the women in the village should cast a vote or not.
Episode 4 · Guddu to Write a Love Letter
Pappu tells Guddu that he is scared of expressing his love for Sureeli. He decides to pen down his feelings in a letter. He goes around the village asking for a pen and paper.
Episode 5 · Movie Buffs
People in Lapataganj are extremely happy to see that there is a new movie to watch. Indu insists Mukundi takes her to watch the movie whereas Pappu tries his best to take Sureeli for the movie.
Episode 6 · The Theatre Shuts Down
The local theatre is overcrowded as everyone is too excited to watch the movie which is currently being shown. The theatre manager is devastated after the district collector gives an order to shut down the theatre permanently.
Episode 7 · Malan Devi's Surrender
There are announcements made in the village about Malan Devi surrendering herself near the lake. Indu shows a lot of interest in this and asks Mukundi hundreds of questions regarding the same.
Episode 8 · Indu's Wish to See a Dacoit
Most of the people in the village travel to watch Malan Devi's surrender. Indu wakes Mukundi up from his sleep, asking him to take her to watch the surrender. Mukundi ends up giving in when he learns that the entire village is going.
Episode 9 · Mukundi Becomes a Scape Goat
Seeing Indu trade chocolate to get her work done from their son, Mukundi opposes her act. Mukundi gets stuck between his two bosses as they mistreat him for disrespecting them.
Episode 10 · Neta Pandey's Dilemma
Neta Pandey is disturbed after seeing a letter missing from his name outside his house. He begins to look for the person who is responsible for meddling with his name.
Episode 11 · Santosh is In Town
Mishri and Kachua are excited to meet Mukundi's brother, Santosh. Mishri makes Sureeli get ready and takes her to meet Santosh with an objective to get them hitched.
Episode 12 · Santosh Flirts With Laali
Santosh tries to woo Laali but Mishri takes her to her house just in time. Indu is surprised to see Santosh suddenly showing interest in marriage. He tries impressing Laali all day.
Episode 13 · Finding a Colossus
Seeing problems increase at a high rate in Lapataganj, Baba says that only a colossus can save the village. All the villagers start looking for one for the upliftment of Lapataganj.

Indu yells at the milkman for giving her diluted milk and warns him one last time. Other people in the village notice adulteration in certain food items being sold in Lapataganj.
Episode 15 · Mukundi Protests Against Adulteration
Mukundi is forced to observe a fast to protest against growing adulteration in the village. The people in Lapataganj aim towards making the local minister take an action against the same.
Episode 16 · Mukundi to Take a Casual Leave
As Mukundi is lost in deep thoughts, people around him mistake him for having a toothache. Mukundi is in reality thinking whether he should take a casual leave from work or not.
Episode 17 · Mukundi Gets Threatened
Mukundi is kicked out of the ration shop when he asks for sugar. He is also threatened to not open his mouth, otherwise he will be beaten up.
Episode 18 · The Ashamed Minister
Everyone in Lapataganj wonders why the minister is ashamed. Indu insists Mukundi takes her to see the ashamed minister. Many people go to visit the minister to find out why he is ashamed.
Episode 19 · Destruction Due to Worms
Indu gives Mukundi a task to keep the wheat out for drying as it is attacked by worms. Mishri assigns Kachua a similar task as a few of their food items have caught fungus.
Episode 20 · Struggle to Pass Higher Secondary
Indu's uncle is in power and offers to help Chukundi. Pappu tries to impress Indu in order to get his passing certificate through her uncle's source.
Episode 21 · Mukundi Gets an Award
Mukundi's honesty gets the rightful reward and is interviewed by the media. Lapataganj is in a mood to celebrate when this news spreads like haywire.
Episode 22 · Miseries Of Marriage
Indu and Mukundi are on different note about wedding expenses. Everyone is set for Poonam's marriage when the groom's family starts demanding more dowry.
Episode 23 · Intellectuals Come to Rescue
Kachua takes the Politician's speech too seriously. By calling himself an intellectual, he sets out to solve various problems of the residents.
Episode 24 · Mystery Of The Neem Tree
A film crew comes across Lapataganj for shooting and finds it ideal. The residents get busy to fill up the dried up lake but the heroine's whims and fancies are elsewhere.

A loan agent arrives at Lapataganj and targets Pappu. Pappu feels Mukundi is the perfect person for Chaubey to pursue and explains about the loan to the residents.

Mukundi is irritated with Indu's questioning and decides to go to Asansol. The disagreement accelerates when the different residents give their opinions in this regard.
Episode 28 · Hanumanji's Arrival
The villagers have their own unique way of worshipping. Pappu and Indu fight over a newspaper that encloses a vacancy for the priest.
Episode 29 · Interview For Priest's Role
Pappu is depressed about his voice but with Hanuman's blessing, he recovers. Mukundi suggests to him how to apply for the role of the priest.

The villagers are shocked to see Pappu's change and dedication towards his profession. Sureeli is heartbroken to know Pappu's decision but still pursues him.

Indu's sister, Vasanti, comes to Lapataganj to visit her. Mishri has lost her goat and files a report. Vasanti and Mukundi team up to preach the villagers about poetry.

Kachua oversleeps amidst the rush in the morning, so Pappu pulls a prank on him. Mukundi reminds Kachua of all the things he has lost due to his laziness.

Mishri and Kachua go to the river to get water and Pappu uses this opportunity to spend time with Sureeli. Later on, Pappu gets lost in his thoughts of his previous lover.

Pappu is collecting the donation from the villagers when he catches a glimpse of Sukumari. Sureeli starts doubting Pappu but he still sorts out Sukumari's problem.

The old-school preaching needs dusting now, so Mukundi puts his effort to impart his son with few ethics. Mukundi stands against the wrong procedure used by the teachers of today and tries to bridge the gap.

Pappu is upset as his party has lost the elections. The villagers start debating over the pros and cons of the parties have and how could one win over another.
Episode 40 · New Year
In Lapataganj, the new year brings new hopes with water. Mishri's husband decides to return on this occasion and the villagers celebrate their new emerging sun.
