7.5 · 2022 · Documentary,Talk · ~14m
As part of Pride Month, W Stephen Gilbert looks back on the BBC drama Only Connect that he commissioned and produced in 1979. Today, it is considered a landmark but overlooked piece of television history thanks to its sympathetic portrayal of a homosexual relationship. In this special interview, Gilbert recalls his struggle to bring Only Connect to the screen, the challenges of making an openly gay drama for mainstream television and the impact the piece has had in the decades since its original broadcast.
